Overview

Aransas Pass is across Redfish Bay from Port Aransas, and the Handbook of Texas says the town's development has centered on its harbor. The two yearly events on this page are run by the Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce (the Chamber).

This page covers only what differs here. For the whole Coastal Bend by month, including fishing seasons, hurricane season and what to pack, see When to visit the Coastal Bend.

Season by season

The two events below are the ones the Chamber lists on its own pages. Dates change every year, so check with the Chamber before you plan a trip around either one.

At the Port Aransas station the warmest month is August (average high 89°F) and the coolest is January (average low 50°F). September is the wettest month, with 6.5 inches, and December is the driest, with 1.7.

These are the NOAA 1991 to 2020 climate normals for the Port Aransas station (USC00417170), from the National Centers for Environmental Information. Temperatures are rounded to the nearest degree Fahrenheit and rain to the nearest tenth of an inch.

Fall

The Chamber lists the Shrimporee for October at the Shrimporee Festival Grounds, and its events calendar numbers it as an annual festival. The Chamber's page lists a shrimp eating contest and a Battle of the Boil, and it calls the Shrimporee parade a beloved tradition. The parade brings together local organizations, businesses, schools and community groups with floats, decorated vehicles and performances, and it is paired with a Great Outhouse Race.

Parking at the festival grounds is limited at peak times. The Chamber encourages visitors to use the free park-and-ride shuttles sponsored by the Port of Corpus Christi, and it says proceeds from the festival parking lots benefit youth non-profit organizations.

Winter

The Chamber holds the Illuminated Saltwater Christmas Parade in downtown Aransas Pass in December. It calls the parade the brightest holiday tradition in Aransas Pass.
